We all have a great respect for those who put themselves in harms way for our own personal safety. It is fitting that they should be thanked and honored. I have found that doing this every other year makes for a great Sunday.
Here are a few guidelines we use to make it a success:
- Create a flyer to advertise and invite emergency personnel. (See below)
- Preach a strong salvation message. (e.g. “God’s 911 Call”)
- Have such a day in the fall or spring.
- Invite doctors, nurses, firefighters, EMTs, police officers, FBI, etc.
- Have a short video to be viewed which shows them in service.
- Invite each to come to platform and give name and area of service.
- Invite local law enforcement leader to speak. (e.g. sheriff, fire chief)
- Give each one a special gift of thanks.
- Encourage one of your own members from that area to give his/her personal testimony.
- Ask fire and police personnel to bring service vehicles. Children love this.
If this is well promoted and taken before the Lord, this can be a great day for the salvation of souls.
