On the first Sunday for each year we unveil our theme for the year. That first Sunday evening service of the year we call “Vision Night.” This evening is done to praise the Lord for all His goodness of the past year in our church as well as lay out our goals for the coming year. This helps keep an attitude of excitement and progress for the church. As the pastor, I spend much time in advance praying for the exact vision to lay out before the church.
Our vision night contains a variety of different things. There can be physical projects (remodeling a building, new playground, etc. ). You may develop a new ministry (Masters Club, discipleship, etc.). A goal for the year may be an extension of a current ministry (new bus route, new Sunday School class, etc.). I believe the vision laid out before the church ought to be both specific and attainable. A vision will help keep both the pastor and the people on task.
